I vaguely remember reading that roundabouts had become “trendy” with traffic engineers and they were sticking them everywhere they possibly could including places they are completely wrong for. The first one we had around here was at the intersection of a rural highway and a secondary road. They had to redesign that one because farm equipment couldn’t get around it. Now there is also one at the intersection of a busy road and the entrance to a high priced neighborhood. There wasn’t even a stop sign on the busy road before but the rich people got pissed that they had to wait so in went the roundabout. It’s a complete mess. You have to do a quick “S” to even get in to it since the lanes didn’t match up like they should.

Give it time, people will figure it out eventually and it will (hopefully) be emphasized more in drivers ed. I remember reading that a national study showed that when conventional intersections were replaced by roundabouts, fatalities and crashes (both driver and pedestrian) on average went down. But two lane roundabouts are trickier. The police and DOT really should have an educational campaign with things like mailing local residents flyers on how roundabouts work.

Weve had it since 2011. I don’t know how much more time it needs.
And like I said in the article yesterday yes fatalities went down but total accidents quadrupled.

People are stupid.
Used properly on a road where traffic is not too heavy, a good roundabout can keep people moving smoothly and help calm traffic. I grew up near a city with a few and always found them to work well.
